Clements was founded in 1947 in Washington, D.C. as Clements & Company, by husband and wife Robert S. Clements and M. Juanita Guess-Clements.
It offers car, property, term life, health, specialty and high-risk insurance in over 170 countries. It serves expatriates, diplomats and military personnel, as well as nonprofits, contractors, embassies and schools.
Beyond Washington it maintains offices in London, Dublin, Gibraltar and Dubai.
In 2023 it was acquired by Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., one of the world's largest insurance brokerage and risk management firms, and now operates as a Gallagher company.
