DAN Europe is not an insurer in the usual sense: it is a non-profit foundation for diving safety that also provides cover to its members.
DAN Europe (Divers Alert Network Europe) was established in 1983 as a non-profit organisation dedicated to diving safety. It operates as the DAN Europe Foundation, registered in Malta with continental operations in Roseto, Italy.
Its work runs along three lines: diving safety and insurance — dive accident cover, professional diving liability and dive centre insurance — medical research, with a decompression risk analysis database, and education with emergency response.
It counts over 400,000 diver members and a network of 180 diving doctors. It handles more than 5,000 emergency calls a year through an international hotline operating around the clock.
Its services cover multiple European territories in more than ten languages.
